<p>I’m taking it tomorrow, and I’m extremely screwed. I’m doing translations that were on the old AP tests, and I’m getting around 5-7 out of 9s on them. Which isn’t terrible, but isn’t as proficient as I’d like to be either. I’m not worrying about the essays just because I can generally BS them on the tests we’ve taken in class, and my teacher always scores me well using the AP rubric. I plan on doing the same tomorrow. I’ve been doing fairly well on the multiple choice sections as well, missing one or two per passage, so that’s probably 10 max I’ll miss tomorrow (being optimistic). But I’m not feeling all that confident.</p>
<p>They don’t give you long marks! Gah I miss that so much… how am I supposed to know if it’s ablative :[</p>
<p>But, if it makes you feel any better, there’s quite a few people in my class who will be lowering the curve. One girl hasn’t shown up to class in at least a month, but she’s taking the exam just so she doesn’t have to take the final (friggin rich kids 
jk), as that’s the policy at our school.</p>

our class JUST finished the 1856 lines last week lol. i took a released ap test and got destroyed (missed like >50% of the mc…). goal for tomorrow is definitely relying on bsing skills. hoping for a 4 cuz that will actually get me placement! altho realistically probably a 3…</p>
<p>Our class didn’t finish the lines. Like yesterday our teacher goes “Oh yeah, we skipped 200 lines of book six, those random passages in book one, and some in book four, so you might want to review those tonight.” ■■■.</p>
<p>And, I just completely bombed that multiple choice section. I literally have no idea how well I actually did because I don’t know for sure that I even got a single one right. But the FRQ I thought was pretty easy, especially since I had reviewed the second translation passage shortly before.</p>
<p>But I agree with you, hoping for a four, but realistically looking at a three I feel like. :/</p>

<p>No, actually I took the AP Latin Literature test a few years ago (didn’t want to put myself through Vergil), and it was right before they were going to can it. So guess what they did? Made the questions as hard as possible so people wouldn’t miss it. My teacher said it had one of the lowest passing rates ever for an AP Latin test…</p>

<p>The MC was brutal. Only 8 people took the exam in my school (school of ~3000) and we all agreed that it was ridiculous.</p>
<p>FRQ was easier, but I’m still not really that confident =\ Just frustrating cause everything that I focused on wasn’t on the exam. And a lot of the things I skipped over and thought wouldn’t be important, ended up being part of the essays. But I seriously have no idea what I could have gotten, seriously anything from a 1 to a 5.</p>

<p>The main thing that bothered me about the essays was just that there wasn’t really much to talk about I felt like. I mean it could have just been me not being prepared but the questions were just like “how does the passage characterize ____” and then I just talk about diction and stuff like that.</p>
<p>Just a little frustrating about how my teacher emphasizes how similes come up every year and I stayed up retranslating 19 similes on my own and none of them came up. And how we spend all year learning figures of speech and they only came up once or twice on the multiple choice. Sorry to rant but this exams really frustrated me because it’s hard enough as it is, but I felt like this year they just picked random things that really weren’t that significant.</p>
<p>It is frustrating. Studying for endless hours on passages that matter to the Aeneid, then they pull out some random passages for us to write about. There was only one passage from books 10 and 12, which is the climax of the book and which i studied a lot and it ended up being useless to study it. AP tests this year seem harder than usual, unlucky year to be taking many aps…</p>

<p>I thought the MC wasn’t actually that bad. Except for I would read the passage and be like, OK, I think the author is arguing x. Then I’d get halfway through the MC questions on that passage and realize the author was arguing the opposite thing. Lol. I liked how MC sort of coached you through it, so that if you didn’t really know what was going on you could find clues in the MC. I loved those questions that were like Lines 3-4 can be translated as blah blah blah, because you could just pick whatever made sense in English, and it helped you out on the rest of the passage. The pace I had to go at was just killer though; I was so rushed the whole time.</p>
<p>FRQs were okay, ish. Not really sure how translation is scored. I definitely missed a couple phrases/words but for the most part was ok. The short essay and the essay on the Aeneid as a whole were so simplistic. I felt like I was just describing things and reciting facts–no deep thinking or analysis, which made it a lot easier. I spent a long time on the long essay, but I think it was pretty decent. Either it was good, or I was completely off the mark and it was awful.</p>
<p>I just hope I did well enough to get placement and stuff; I feel like i have worked so hard throughout the year preparing for this exam and they hit you with a couple passages that if you don’t know just screws you. I really wish we didn’t have to translate so many lines! It should be like just parts from 1-6 in Latin; then you could go more in depth on the Latin and be able to review it better for the test.</p>
<p>I hadn’t done sight translation in a while though and some of it was actually easier than Vergil, which was sort of nice.</p>

<p>I just recently discovered this site and thought this would be the perfect place to ask this question! For the first translation, the test said that it was from book 1 but I, along with the rest of my class, are pretty sure it was from book 4. There are only 2 other people in my class so its quite possible we are all wrong, but I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this? Thanks!</p>

<p>Never mind, one of my friends at another school got her green sheet back today (I don’t know if my teacher is giving them back or not) and it actually was from book 1. I spent a good 5 to 10 minutes trying to figure out where in book 1 it was and feel really stupid now. Thanks anyway though!</p>

<p>Haha I know it seems as though no one takes this exam. Besides the translation mix-up the rest of it was okay I guess. The multiple choice was about what I was expecting and the essays were pretty easy to bs. Hoping for a 4 but will realistically get a 3. Or 2. It’s kind of difficult to tell exactly how well I did.</p>
