This seems to be one of the less popular AP exams. I am wondering how other people did. Many people say this is one of the more difficult tests.

I got a 5/5 on the late exam! I was so surprised! I completely make up stuff for the composition. It was awful.

How did you do?

I got a 5:

4 on the aural section
5 on the non-aural section

This was the AP I was most worried about because I always got 3's on the aural section of practice tests.

Yep, I was worried because I didn't really take the "AP Music Theory" class.

Is sight-singing aural or non-aural (stupid question, I know)?

If I remember the rubrics correctly, I'm pretty sure it's a part of the non-aural section because you are required to sing from written music rather than analyze what you hear.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense.

I felt really awkward singing in front of my proctor...

I didn't take it, but my friend got a 4. It's unusual cuz the AP Music Theory teacher at our school sucks.

How did you guys learn/practice the sight singing and ear training? Did you use a textbook just for that stuff?

I self studied. For sight singing, I got an old sight singing book and just practiced by myself. I also did some ear training by myself, but not too much.

let me preface this by saying that i don't know my AP score yet, but i felt pretty confident....

i've done a lot of sightsinging in choir, and this one book called '90 days to Sightsinging success' was tremendously helpful.

As for eartraining, I found a couple of websites with free eartraining practice. here are the links:
Good Ear - Online Ear Training Site
Ricci Adams' Musictheory.net - go to trainers for practice

and here's a site with lots of links
MUSIC THEORY

and another site with good stuff
abacci.com - music lessons

hope this helps

Thanks for the links. Those ear training websites are actually kind of fun!

dont people that

take late exams

get an advantage?

How are late exams an advantage?

I took it last year and got 5's on all sections (Aural, Written, Composite). I seriously thought it was the easiest exam i've ever taken....

Do you have perfect pitch or are you just super musically talented? =]

i just got owned.

I took it last year (5 on all sections), and out of all my tests that I've taken, it has probably been the easiest one. The material isn't easier, but the test is actually fun, so studying and the taking the test goes by a lot faster.

modulation, if you're asking me, neither. I don't have perfect pitch, but i do play a musical instrument. i think that helped.

To whoever asked, sight singing is definitely aural because you have to use your ears to make sure you're singing the right pitches.

Also, congrats to everyone who did well. I still haven't got my score...

I got a 5. I've known most of the material from playing piano and studying for CM.
