Ap or IB for Bs/Md programs

So i have the opportunity to take IB at my school, and AP also. Now don't get me wrong, IB is a very rigorous program and so is AP, but IB is even more so. But what does that matter? Sure IB looks good on a college admission but does it make that much difference. AP and IB both give just about the same GPA and IB is just so much stricter and it does have its reason for being so. Its one of the few programs that are very different and unique. Being in highschool, i want to be as successful as i possibly can but also don't want to over stress my self. Friends have told me IB isnt really hard just alooot of work. If thats the case it shouldn't be a problem since i plan on quitting most sports next year for Shadowing and volunteering in hospitals and studying for my SATs. So what do you think. AP or IB? Does it matter? Will either do? Do PSU really care about how "prestigious" IB is? Thanks.-Coldsoldier.

I would just go with a bunch of APs versus IB, because AP is still looked upon as challenging and there are more definite opportunities to obtain college credit. Because AP is at your school less difficult and is looked upon as relatively same challenge, AP is a safe choice.

Do IB. I am in IB, and have had great success (so far) in applying to BS/MD programs. Colleges love the fact that in IB, you get a global education, and that you are a citizen of the world. They really pick up on the Theory of Knowledge applications in medicine, ethics, etc. I would highly recommend it.

IB seems to be more distinguished than AP because it doesn’t seem to be as widely available, and most schools seem to accept it equally…really comes down to your preference for learning style and test style in my opinion

my sister did IB and liked aspects of it but its not necessary. I agree in part with 8yearman-if you know how to apply certain aspects of what you learn in IB to interviews, its great. But, you can still do teh same with AP. I dont think it’ll make a difference at the end of the day in terms of direct program admissions as long as you take a lot of AP classes and do well in it. I didnt do IB, just AP classes, and have gotten interviews at some solid places. Med related EC’S is more important
