So I just got my email from the adviser after they received my AP's. As such, I had to make some adjustments to my schedule (which was fairly easy. Pitt has enough class options so my schedule didn't fall apart). The one that confuses me is my physics one. Currently, I'm in PHYS 0475, which is Honors physics 1. PHYS 0476 aka Honors physics 2 happens second semester. My email says I can skip to physics 2, but does that mean taking a semester off from physics or does that mean doing another class further down the progression?

You must have credit for Physics BC - I’ve heard physics 475 is tough even for people exposed to physics before. If you skip to 476, you’ll have to take it in spring, but another option is to take the regular non honors Physics 175 for which there is one section in the fall.

My credit is Physics BC. If I can only skip to 476, I might as well take 475 just to keep in stride with the class. Physics 175 isn’t really an option.

My son will be in your class then - he’s a prospective physics major. He only had credit for Physics B as BC was not offered in his high school.

I took Honors Physics 1 & 2. Most people do that, even the kids who had the credit to only take 2. The reason is two fold: one is that you wouldn’t take physics until the spring (which means being out of practice for about 8 months) and two is that it was much harder for the kids who jumped in for HP2 to understand how the class worked, what material would be covered, etc.

The Physics department advisor said that he recommends taking the intro course even if you did well in high school, as the courses here are much more in depth than high school courses. He says that AP credit is accepted, but to take the UHC course if possible.

He was so awesome. He gave me money to buy bagels for our entire class when we held Saturday morning exam review sessions. (Among other reasons that he rocked, like dressing up like Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow for Halloween…)
