AP physics or Honors physics (high school)

Hello,
I’m a junior in high school and trying to decide if I should take honors or AP physics 1 for my senior year. I’m really good at math and will be taking AP Cal BC next year. I want to take a physics course that’s more math based but want to maintain my GPA…

If you’re taking Calc BC, and assuming you have no previous coursework in physics, you should be able to handle AP Physics 1.

I would talk with your high school GC and students who have taken the courses at your school. They would be better qualified to explain the differences between the two course offerings. Plus, in my children’s experience, the teacher can make a huge difference.

The AP course will require more time so you need to decide how it can affect your other courses. If most of your courses are AP, then taking honors level won’t be seen as a black mark unless you are applying to the most selective colleges. If you are thinking of taking (if it is offered in your school) AP Physics C then you should take AP Physics B to be better prepared for that course.

My son is taking AP Physics I now as his 1st Physics class and it isn’t very difficult for him. He took calc through calc 3.

AP physics 1 isn’t that hard, so you’ll be fine if you take that. It’s actually kind of easy and I’m awful at math and I’ve only taken pre-calc. I’m unsure about the honors courses

Another vote for AP Physics. If you can handle BC, AP Physics will be fine.
