If I wanted to be a biology/biochemistry major, how necessary is taking a Physics AP? At my school, there is no direct jumping to AP courses - every AP course has a prerequisite. For AP Bio, the prereq is Honors Bio. For AP Chem, the prereq is Honors Chem, and so on. So I’m taking Honors Biology freshman year (our school doesn’t offer any APs in 9th grade). I’ve found a way to get AP Bio and AP Chem into my schedule by taking a summer course. However, unless I use sophomore summer to skip Honors Physics, I can’t fit Physics into my schedule until Senior year. How much will this hurt me?
The fact that you are not taking AP Physics will not hurt you. The fact that you are not taking physics at all will hurt you if you are applying to colleges that request/require a year each of bio/chem/physics.
It is best to take at least high school physics (does not necessarily have to be AP) so that you have at least a high school level view of physics before you take physics in college (which is generally required for biology and biochemistry majors and pre-meds).
