In a cutthroat pre-med environment such as DUke, should you use your AP science credit to skip intro classes or do you reccommend to repeat the intro classes to get a higher GPA. I feel medical schools prefer a higher gpa.

It depends if you know the material well. You should skip it if you feel you know the AP material very well and retain most of it, but you should consider retaking the course if your a bit iffy or if your AP class was weak. Its pretty much personal preference. I heard that for some classes such as Calc II, retaking it is just as hard as skipping and going onto the next level. This might be b/c the material is more in-depth/advanced at Duke compared to the AP curriculum and/or there are brutal curves.

I'm using my AP science credits (bio, chem, physics c, env. sci) to skip intro classes. I'm going to major in biology, so I'm trying to get pre-reqs out of the way. It also makes it easier to double major, I think.

As far as med schools go, some don't accept AP credit...so it depends on the school.

regarding AP credits, most med schools will accept AP credits but there are some conditions that must be met. Some allow you to just use the AP credits completely in lieu of the premed reqs w/out having to take any more classes in these areas. Most however, require that for every class you skip via AP credits, that you take a more advanced course in place of it. So if you wind up skipping, lets say, general chem I and II and Calc I and II, you have to take 2 more chem classes past organic as well as Math 103/104, or something like that. Some med schools will allow u to just take 1 additional advanced course in that area if u skipped the premed req through APs.
