I’m contemplating self-studying for one social studies AP Exam and one science exam sometime during my high school career.
Which of the following Ap courses have the least and most content in them?
1)AP Biology
2)AP Chemistry
3)AP Physics C (e & m and mechanics)
3)AP Physics 1 and 2
I’m not really curious about the difficulty of the concepts but rather would like to know which of these entail the most amount of material (concepts and terms) to learn…
The bigger question is why do you want to self study? Just take the course in school.
From an amount of content perspective, all four options are more or less the same.
@skieurope
Well I’ll be taking APGov-> APUSH → AP EURO
10th. 11th 12th
I want to self study AP Psychology and maybe self study one of the sciences since honors bio and honors physics are prerequisites for their Ap classes…
Science: taking AP Chem next year and maybe bio or physics during my junior year and senior years, that’s why I want to see which one has less material so I can self study one science and take the other in school
Do AP Science require labs experience?
Yes. Which is also a challenge with trying to self study. Again, I’m not seeing the need to self study. Nobody is impressed by taking all the AP science tests, and there has to be something better to do with your time.
You should ideally take three lab sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) in school, preferably at the honors and/or AP level. If Honors bio and physics are pre-reqs for the AP take those, and only take the AP if you are interested in the subject – it will not impress admissions at any school for you to self-study. If you want to show content mastery, you can take the SAT subject tests.
None. Take them DE or AP.
I don’t recomend self-study, especially for the AP sciences. It’s tough. Why don’t you do dual enrollment with community college (like @LoveTheBard said) instead.
The only AP subject worth self-studying for IMO is AP Calc BC if your school only goes as high as AB and/or wants you to take both AB and BC which is overkill. Or perhaps a AP that is not taught online at a CC. Classes like Psychology, you can take an online class at a CC and that is equivalent to self-studying.
The labs are a very important part of Bio/Chem/Physics and you can’t self-study labs.
