***AP U.S. HISTORY 2015***

@michelle426
I think you can use outside information outside of the time period (which was 1950s to 1980s)

From the APUSH Curriculum Framework:

“The document-based question will typically
require students to relate the documents to a historical period or theme and,
thus, to focus on major periods and issues. For this reason, outside knowledge
BEYOND the specific focus of the question is important and must be incorporated
into the student’s essay to earn the highest scores.”

@michelle426 The grading rubric that collegeboard made for the redesigned practice test uses 1 point for each part.

@sleepingpush ah. well that is quite interesting. The way my teacher graded SAQs this year was a little weird this year. She told us it was going to be that way. Regardless, thanks for the info (and no need to sound so confrontational geez.)

Also, for everyone that wants to know, the DBQ and the LEQ will be worth 7 and 6 points respectively.

@Chrysanthemum14 And by using outside information, they mean information outside of the docs. If you look at past DBQs (yes, yes. I know there is a new curriculum and all, but they still used outside information then), it is outside information NOT MENTIONED IN THE DOCS, BUT WITHIN THE TIME PERIOD. Using TR as an example for environmental reforms in the 1960’s is unacceptable, but using things like the creation of the EPA would have been acceptable.

@michelle426
I have not found a place where CB explicitly stated that outside information had to be within the time period. I have only seen that it somehow has to be relevant to your analysis.

@Chrysanthemum14 Actually look at past DBQs from CB (just search up APUSH DBQ 20xx Grading Guidelines or something), and if you look at those, the “outside information” they suggest is all within the time period. Here is an example of the DBQ from 2008: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/ap08_us_history_sgs_rev.pdf
Just ctrl+f “outside information”.

I didn’t do the FRQ… AT ALL. AT. ALL. I didn’t even look at the FRQ questions because I stupidly thought it was still DBQ time. Do you think I can still pass with at least a 3? I felt confident about the other stuff, except the DBQ. I’d give my DBQ a 7/9.

@Chrysanthemum14 And also, I would like to clarify my original point. It’s not like the person has to completely omit TR from her essay. She most certainly can talk about how the ideas of TR led to environmental conservation efforts later in the century, but she must focus more on the latter because that is the time period that the prompt refers to.

@CactusEverdeen the DBQ is out of 7 now, super sorry :/.

Well, okay then, I don’t think I did THAT bad on the DBQ. What I said made sense and all added up. But my main concern is the FRQ… does that dramatically effect your grade? I have no chance at a 5?

@CactusEverdeen The FRQ is only 15%, so it’s possible to get a 5 without writing it, though you’d have to do really well on everything else.

@CactusEverdeen It really depends on how well you did on your other sections. DBQ is only worth about 25% of the grade anyway, and as long as you used all or all but one of the documents, wrote something on your paper, addressed the correct prompt, you would’ve gotten like a 3/7 at least. The LEQ (FRQ) tho… if you went in with no pk whatsoever, then it should be ok if you are able to scrap something down on your paper. That part is only worth 20% of your grade.

@CactusEverdeen A 5 is very unrealistic in your situation , however it is still possible. The LAQ is worth 27 raw points so to get a 5 you would need a perfect DBQ, LAQ, and 29/55 o the mc or any combination/variances of those. You can still pass with a 3/4 though!!

So if I had very little outside info on my dbq, could i still do good if i did everything else?

If a person does well on the MC but has an alright SAQ/DBQ/LEQ, is it possible to get at least a 4?

@littlet4lks you could definitely get a 4 and probably have a good shot at a 5

Also my teacher said that the outside info for the DBQ had to be from the period and anything that was from a different period was considered synthesis .

what do u guys think a 40/55, 12/12, 4/7, and a 5/6 is?

@1golfer1 so do you think the presidents who favored colonization is right for that question ? I put that but was debating between that and Great Migration .
