Truman Doctrine was under Harry S Truman and pledged to help those countries that resisted communism; mainly concerned Turkey & Greece because at the time, those countries around the Soviet Union were prone to falling under their rule.

Fun question:
Does the S in the name above stand for a middle name?

Oh, and thanks Ivy. :)

Q: What was the purpose of the Stamp Act of 1765? (easy one).

implemented the containment policy
Response to
1. Communist uprosing in Gree
2. Soviet demands on turkey
Asked congress to help

first direct tax, under lord grenville

Who was the lame duck president and why?

GOd i hate this 60 second thing

Yeah, and the sugar act mainly was the first, and probably only tax aimed at raising colonial revenue.

Buchanan..um..it was him right?
By the way, in Harry S Truman's name, the S doesn't stand for anything specific. His parents couldn't decide between 2 middle names that started with S, so they left it S. That's why there is no period after it. Random trivia :)

No the Sugar Act (also known as the REVENUE ACT of 1764) was to raise revenue... the stamp act really taxed the colonists very little it was the ideology behind it

What was Seaward's Folly?

Nope it was President Hoover who was the lame duck president because for the four months between his Roosevelt's inaugaration left him basically powerless

they bought alaska

stupid 60 second thing ........grrrrrrr

meanwhile

what were the confiscation acts

Ugh, excessive mistakes on my part--not like me. That's what i meant--the sugar act, but i accidentally wrote stamp act. "Mea Culpa."

William H Seward bought Alaska from Russia but at the time, people thought it was a waste of money as there was nothing but "ice and walruses" up there.

Confiscation Acts-designed to free slaves in seceded states. I think two years are South Carolina seceded in 59' under Buchannon.

Q: What was the Wade-Davis Bill?

ohh we just studied this it asked for a 50 percent majority to take an oath of loyolty to the uinion before being accepted back into the unionn. Only non confederates were ollowed to vote for a new state constitution. It was vetoed by lincoln

Who was William Jennings Bryan and how does he tie in to teh populist era ie. what did he do want to do?

Drop the gold standard, bring in the silver! ~W.J. Bryan

"Cross of Gold Speech" intended to have the american currency backed by silver rather then use gold. It was intended to help inflate the price of money, which in turn would help farmers get out of debt. He was a progressive--progressivism, was intended to help the lives of the people; in this case, the farmers.

also he helped with the demise of the populist party as the unlimited coining of silver was generally a populist stance. Byran ran under the Democratic name but it was a fused campaign. No need for the populist party..........
