civil service system, Arthur
Northern Security Co. v. US

What case did Brown vs. Board of Education directly supercede?

pentasa: Plessy V. Fergusen

imiracle911:The Pendleton Act gave federal jobs to individuals based on merit, and i believe exams. Yep, definately Arthur. For the other question however, I was looking for Ogden V. Gibbons. The dispute involved to competing ferrymen in the state of New York. In turn, the two wanted to eliminate eachother (competition)--the gov. stepped in--declared it as a monopoly.

oh but Gibbons v. Ogden isn't really about trustbusting. It's about who has control over interestate commerce state or federal?
Northern Security co. v. US is about trustbusting. It's the first trustbusting TR did.
Also Civil Service System is giving federal jobs based on merits.

Ah, interstate commerce--yes. Your definately right with the trial with the "Tedd-i-nator." Nevertheless, many people can correlate interstate commerce with trusts in a sense when look at the railroad hysteria; unpayable tariffs, all controlled at the RR's will. Anyway, yeah--i should have specified "interstate."

Q:
1.Who was the founder of the AFL? What was the organization's goal?
2. Who was the founder of the Knights of Labor? What was the organization's goal?

(fairly easy).

Founder of AFL: Samuel Gompers. The AFL was only interested in skilled workers and had preference to who they wanted (men.. etc). That's all i can remember lol

KOL= Uriah Stephens. They were more generous, offering membership relatively unbiased based on ethnicity, sex, and skill.

Name the tariff from the one made during lincoln's term and what they did.
start with Morrill Tariff

what do the terms ''closed shop'' and ''open shop'' mean. sorry if this was asked before.. not sure

wasnt there something called the Morrill Land grant?? where land was given to people who would farm it??

Yes, the Morill Land Grant was most strongly associated with states, having been compelled by the government, to set aside land strictly for the purpose of establishing educational institutions.

Q:
1.Who formed the Albany Plan of the Union?
2.Was it passed?
3.What did it stipulate?

wait so was it a tariff??

Albany plan formed by THE MAN: B Franklin
Not passed
Stipulated that a congress be formed (or union, whatever) between the colonies. Was it in response to the Sugar Act, or Stamp, or maybe im way off...

Nah, it wasn't into response to the "Acts" the Albany Plan was in 1754 which was the start of the French-Indian War. I don't really know what exactly the Albany Plan was in response to though.

then what was the act that set aside land for people to farm... if there was such a thing?

*what do the terms ''closed shop'' and ''open shop'' mean.
*

closed shops - allowed union members
open shops - didn't allow union members

Q: What was the purpose of the Seneca Falls Convention?

Advocate women equality I think...wow this post is awesome!

Yup, that's right Hyper2400. :)

o sorry, you are right, dealt with french-indian war. however, franklin did ask for the colonies to make a "Grand Council'' to oversee affairs with defense and relations with indians and expansion.

Seneca Falls- was that the big woman's suffrage thing?

The respone to the Albany Plan was a direct result of the French and Indian war in 1754. It was the precursor to the articles of confed. and any form of US government.

The Morril Land Grant--was by no means a tariff. Read my explanation earlier.

Seneca Falls--Stanton, Mott, Anthony: wrote The Declaration of Sentiments.

Q: Who wrote "Letters from a Pennsylvania Farmer," as well as the outline for the Articles of Confederation? (simple question).

What happened at Little Rock, Arkansas during Eisenhower's presidency that was significant to the move for civil rights?

Well, my question: John Dickinson

Sarorah: Little Rock Nine, in arkansas. Govenor Wallace (I believe) prohibited from entering. Eisenhower used military force to enter the school. Direct Result of Brown V. Board of Education.

Does anyone know that act i was asking about: the one that gave land out to be farmed?
