Ap Us Gov Study Thread

question: are parties becoming less important? (please support your answer with examples)

Anyone want to make a study group thing on AIM or something? 1 or 2 people can ask questions from a AP review book and we can study?

sure im up for that

anyone have gov mc tests they are willing to trade

i don't want to organize it though, :/

regamuffin- i read that question alot (or that statement) so yeah, they are becoming less important.. now somebody else can back me up with examples... this would help us study if we put one inputs or into it...

political parties are becoming less important because primaries prevent them controlling the nomination process, the fact that candidates want to distance themselves and appear as an outsider, and maybe becuase the number of independant voters has risen dramatically recently.

Also, media coverage publicizes candidates so the party is not quite as important in that aspect either.

also more people split their ticket nowadays. and party loyalty sucks.

Worth noting: Independents usually register themselves as either Democrat or Republican. In some states, they practice closed primaries, in which only the members of the party hosting the primary is allowed to vote which leads to increased registered independents.

Anyone care to explain the elite theory of government/society for me? I get pluralism and hypopluralism.

I don't think you need to know that

Elite theory: politics is primarily dominated by the upper class (wealthy Americans) and is therefore biased towards that demographic. This creates unequal representation and a lack of attention towards the other societal classes. The elite theory is founded upon the idea that wealth buys influence in politics.

so is there an AIM group going on? if i start a chatroom on AIM and then sign off, does the room go away or can the people i invited still communicate? i want to start a study session on AIM but i can only stay online for about 30 minutes. (post sn's if you're interested)

JyankeesSS2 is my SN

just have someone start up a chatroom..then we can all just join in i guess

What's the informal amendment process?
