AP US History DBQ Help

Thanks for the good advice

My AP World teacher taught us to use 3 point of views that may contradict your position, but my AP US teacher told me not to use it that way. How do I use point of view for my position?

the question is: President Franklin D. Roosevelt is commonly thought of as a liberal and President Herbert C. Hoover as a conservative. To what extent are these characterizations valid?..

The best thing you can do on a dbq is use a massive amount of outside information and use the documents to back up that information. And also, do not, I repeat, DO NOT quote the documents or you will not get above a 4.

above statement is misleading. Yes you CAN quote the documents, but use them concisely. Don’t quote a four line sentence, use bits and pieces of it. Whatever fits in the flow of your essay works best.

I want to thank everyone who has posted on this thread; whether you asked or answered a question. You all have been a TREMENDOUS help to me. I am a sophmore in high school and am getting ready to take the AP World History test on May 13th, and I am horrible at writing DBQ’s, but this forum has helped so much! Thanks again!

IMPORTANT

This applies to the World History DBQ, which I can only assume is also pertaining to APUSH. You must include (somewhere) an ADDITIONAL document that you know of that would fit in well with the documents they give you. This is one of the most-missed points because students forget about it or don’t know to do so.

This is an awesome thread. I am also in an AP US class where we have not done a SINGLE DBQ all year!! I, thankfully, did some in my history class last year but I am still worried about the DBQ on the exam…this definitely helps.
Thanks for all the advice!
And AMSCO offers good guidelines for writing the DBQ…also I would go to apcentral.com and find the past DBQs and scoring guides, because it gives an idea of what the readers are looking for.

my APUSH teacher treats us like we should know all of this information coming into the classroom I am a straight A history student and this year im barely passing this class I am at my wit’s end I don’t know what I am (or am not) doing at all

I’m really scared for the DBQ…I can do okay on the DBQs (as in, get 6’s or 5’s…) if I know a vague idea of the topic before hand, but I don’t know if I know enough to do well otherwise…
