I got an offer of admission to Fordham with 4 years of university housing. Does this include a Fordham-owned apartment? I think I would rather be in an apartment than in a dorm.
I don’t know which campus you are talking about, but at LC, freshmen live in a traditional, brand new dorm, two to a room I think. After freshmen year, you move to the other dorm building, a high rise, that is all apartment-style, usually three bedrooms. 4, 5 or 6 to an apartment, you can be two to a room or in a single. The apartments are also called suites. you’ll have a small but full kitchen and a bathroom.
Freshmen dorms at RH are plentiful and very varied in style. You make three choices and prioritize them and they select them and your roomies. So freshmen year is the only year that Fordham runs your life so to speak. After that you can pick roomies and often the dorm you want. The biggest difference in apartments and dorms is not just size but also apartments have kitchens. And YOU are responsible for cooking, shopping and cleaning up. There are a couple of on campus apartment buildings at Fordham, notably Walsh and Campbell and Salice Conley. Loyola Hall, the former Jesuit residence, is now an Honors dorm and it has a group kitchen.
Fordham owns some buildings off campus but those are for upper classmen and special situations for quasi local commuters etc. or overflow.
Relax. Dorm life helps you learn and grow and make friends. There is drama in dorms and apartments. NO avoiding drama, because people are people and kids are kids and living away from home is stressful.
I believe you can look at the Fordham website to see the dorms available on each campus. At LC I believe all dorms are apartment style with kitchens. At RH it is likely that you will not be in an apartment style dorm until junior year (as upperclassmen get first priority for housing selections).
