Appeal Financial Aid

Hello,

Hope everyone is doing well.

We just received the financial aid package for my D's top choice school: GWU. She was accepted into the Honors program there and given: $12K(Presidential scholarship) + $24K (need based grant) + $8K (loans) + $2K work-study for a total of about $46K financial aid. With tuition around $60K, and taking into consideration my EFC of about $10K, there is still a need of about $8K.

Her other choice is Boston U which gave her approximately $54K, leaving her with only about $10K (which is the EFC).

Her preference would be to go to GWU. Can she appeal the financial aid decision, asking them to at least try to get close to or match the BU offer?

What should the appeal letter say - can I include our household budget? Should I include the offer from BU,?

Cheers, PS

She can try to appeal. Forward the BU offer, say she’d like to attend GW but the financing looks too difficult at the moment, ask for them to review her file. Don’t say your comparing offers or ask for more $, just a review.
