I was wondering if anyone can recommend someone to assist with a application rejection appeal process for UCLA. My daughters first pick was UCLA. She was rejected even after maitaining a GPA above 4.17 for four years while participating in several extra curicular activities, all while having a good SAT score.
She had a GPA near the bottom 25% of last year’s class with unknown test scores. Applications were way up this year (113k). What is your appeal based upon? Unless they made a clerical error, I would just move on.
What’s her SAT score? Also, they used Holistic admissions this year, I think.
As much as you may want not want to hear this I’m not seeing any grounds for appeal. An appeal is only if there is a situation that the committee was not made aware of. @sunnyschool holistic review is used every year. A 4.15 GPA while good is near the bottom of the admit pool. It’s best to move on to other options. Telling Ucla it is your first choice won’t do anything.
Hey actual GPA was 4.37 for her senior year and prior to that she averaged 4.17-4.32
Her SAT was 1200
I would advise you to move on, an appeal is unlikely to be successful in her case unless there was an extenuating circumstance. Unfortunately the statistics that you have supplied would not fall within the range that is likely to be accepted at UCLA. Best of luck!
A 1200 SAT is extremely low for Ucla. It is well below the 25th percentile. A senior year gpa is not considered in UC admissions
There were a few students from my school who were admitted to UCLA for the Fall 2018 semester with GPAs above 4.0 and really low SAT scores (1100s). However, our school is an underrepresented one in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where most of the students’ family income are considered “low”. This may have played a factor in their admittance. I should also note that their majors are not impacted.
You can’t appeal just because you don’t like the decision. An appeal is usually considered for clerical errors on behalf of the school (i.e. the counselor mailed the “wrong” transcript; official records were lost; name confusion).
The competition was fierce with high SATs and GPA’s and exceptional recruited athletes and National Merit Winners, or, as above, attending one of the low SES neighborhood schools that have contracts with UCLA.
basis for appeal is new and compelling information (i.e. grade were completely miscalculated, something extremely important was left out of application, there was no place in application for some info). based off your original post you have no new or compelling info. UC already has access to grade and test scores. if you want to appeal you need new info, otherwise will not be considered
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCLA: 1280-1500
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above:
UCLA: 47.2%
Just for comparison with daughter’s stats.
