Cool, I hope she can make it work and reports back.

I just thought I would say thank you so much to everyone that gave me advice and helped me. I emailed the Director of Financial Aid and she has emailed me back already and will review my case either this week or next week and someone will email me back. She didn’t say when they meet, but I am hoping to get an answer as soon as possible. crosses fingers

XXXX Crossed fingers XXXX

I am getting really nervous, because I haven’t heard back from them yet. Is it normal to take this long? The email I received said they hold weekly meetings. I guess I am just really nervous and anxious, but I hoped I would receive an email or something by now. (See tomorrow is really going to suck because I don’t have school, to break up my obsessive email checking.)

OK…so you sent your email on March 2 or 3. So, about a week has gone by.

We don’t know what day they hold their meetings. We also don’t know if the final decision is made at that meeting or when. She mentioned that your case would be discussed either “this week or next” …“next” would be this week…perhaps today or tomorrow.

If you haven’t heard anything by Tuesday, you could send a polite note asking if your case had been reviewed yet. (include the copy of the email that was sent to you.) I don’t know if it would be appropriate for you to contact her before then. If others think differently, then maybe it would be ok to send something today saying that you look forward to hearing the results of their consideration of your request.

That is probably what I will do. I did finally receive my “official” financial aid package in the mail, so now my mom is going to email them, because she has questions of her own that she wants to ask them and wants to understand things better. See, I am just extremely anxious and I figured around Friday. It is just I am extremely nervous and anxious and a tad bit obsessive right now. Which is bad, but I can’t help it. I want the remote from Click.

What was in your “official” FA package. What is their COA?

the COA (the one they list) is 43,000. (It is downstairs and i don’t remember the rest, just that it was 43,###). I am getting 32,000 in financial aid, but 1500 of that is work study. That leaves me with 12,500 for my billable cost. The package didn’t change from the estimate they gave me. So it is still

Scholarship: 22,000
Work study: 1500
Grant: 3800
Stafford Loan: 5500

Of that 12,500, 6370 is my EFC, which I have to come up with. So yeah, unfortunately I don’t think I will be able to attend. It just really, really sucks.

Well, you’ll have to wait and see what happens after the “powers that be” meet to discuss more aid for you.

What are your mom’s concerns?

UPDATE: Well, I just received info from the financial aid office from Arcadia University. They gave me 1000 more in grants. Unfortunately I don’t think that will be enough for me to go. Just thought I would inform everyone of the situation and I would like to thank everyone that helped me so much. It wasn’t the amount that I wanted but it was something. Thanks again for the help guys.

I hope I don’t have a misunderstanding about the Parent Plus loans. I thought parents who filed the FAFSA are eligible to apply. Someone in this post said it has to be included in the financial aid package. We just received it yesterday, and there’s no mention of Parent Plus loans. They list a grant, work study and two types of Stafford loans, leaving a “gap” of about $20,000. I was planning on taking out a Parent Plus for some of that money. I hope that’s not going to be a problem. Does anyone know if that’s okay?

It is not a problem. You should call the FA office and tell them that you want to have a parent plus loan. If you filed FAFSA then you are eligible for the loan. I learned that some schools don’t include it in their packages, but that doesn’t mean you are not eligible.
When you apply, the school has to certify the amount because it can’t be more than the COA minus any other aid.
