OPcan you ask that this direct billable costs - I understand this is1,500 in addition to books and other expenses which can be enormous when one has nothing - be added to your package as work study? In all likelihood the scholarships you could be eligible for were given in April or May. There is a competition for them as there are always more students who are eligible than scholarships .

OP thinks he/she entitles to his/her friends’ financial aid.

OP also doesn’t realize how CC reacts when a new poster comes on and “wants,” glosses over the details, gives few actual facts, just his/her assumptions- and then rebukes other posters.

Where did you see that?
Nobody can afford medical school, unless your parent is Bill Gates.

For those students in New York state who want to enroll in medical school, they should apply for University at Buffalo’s Presidential Scholarship - free undergraduate education and guaranteed admission to medical school.
See http://honors.buffalo.edu/prospective/scholarships.php

Yes, I was wondering about that, too. Which of Obama’s student loan statements did the OP misunderstand?

And what does all this misunderstanding really tell us about how OP fact-finds and makes decisions? I’m linking this just for the clarification- and how it shows being able to distinguish “whatever you heard” from reality, is an important skill. <a href=“PolitiFact | Did Barack Obama sign a bill to forgive all outstanding student debt? No”>http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2014/jun/09/chain-email/did-barack-obama-sign-bill-forgive-all-outstanding/

Btw, some here already know, FA can cut off discussions if a person is unreasonable or worse. They also have restrictions on the limits of their discretionary powers to treat someone as a unique individual. I don’t have any real issue with OP going back and asking for clarification-- but the premises here are faulty. No suggested wording can make up for that. I think posters were right to try to explain, give context. Most kids who really didn’t understand will show some appreciation for the info. It was also OP’s choice to reject that. And that’s its own form of ■■■■■■■■. Imo.

Reality bites hard. This situation of working hard in college is not unique.

You don’t think I understand poor? Not that I have to explain myself but: my family was on welfare when the US didn’t give out money or WIC coupons; we got government cheese. I had two handicapped parents on multiple medications.
Fortunately, I worked two outside jobs (+1 work study) while in college to support my family, myself, my handicapped parents and several of my 6 siblings; I bussed to one stop, got off at the edge of the 'hood, living in a dangerous neighborhood where the buses wouldn’t even go at night, then biked the rest of the way home in gang neighborhoods. I was beaten up, jumped and robbed, several times. I averaged 2 to 4 hours per night of sleep. As of today, I can’t get more than 4 hours of sleep.

To say I don’t understand low-income or POOR is ridiculous. To say I don’t understand hard work for school is ridiculous. To say you can’t earn $750 per semester is ridiculous. Used books are on Amazon. You can trade laundry costs, meals, and rides with friends. I earned extra money by sewing $2 per hem and cleaning friends rooms and houses. There are always ways to find and earn money. I did this through undergrad and graduate school-maintained a 3.75 gpa in courses like organic neurology. My dd who is presently at Davis, worked as a room maid for HYATT and wrecked her back making beds and cleaning toilets last year to help us put her through school.

You don’t have to do what I or my daughter has done but, if you want money for an education, you will do anything to get it, no matter how demeaning the job. It’s honest work. If you want ideas on how to scrimp, I can show you that, but please don’t insult my intelligence saying that you have a right to funding because you deserve it.

???

What bill was that? And how could such a bill be enforced? Do you think the federal govt has the right to tell universities (state and privately run) that they must meet need with free money grants??? What the heck?
