Hello,
I was deferred from Yale. Is it good form to send a letter about how Yale is still your number one school, etc? And to whom do I send this to (Yale Admissions or my Regional Admissions person)? How long should it be? And what should I address in the letter? Sorry so many questions; I'm just not sure how to go about this!

I wouldn't use the word "appeal" since no decision was made; you were just placed in the RD pool for evaluation. It may be helpful for you to contact your regional director by phone or by letter to express your interest. If you choose to do a letter, write what you think would be important.

Maybe you could tell them why you think Yale is a good match for you, and what you could contribute. Also ask if there is anything else you can do to improve your status.

If Yale is still your top choice, it is good to let the admissions committee know. I think the standard way to do this is to send a letter (better than a phone call b/c your regional rep is busy and it means there is something physical in your file they'll refer to again). Keep it short and let them know of any new IMPORTANT activities, awards or honors.

I agree with dukeclass that you are not appealing your deferral, so don't call it that in your letter.

Jusst put your check or the Trust Instument into the envelope with your letter and which you send to development .......then you remain in contact with the development office.

i got deferred and then accepted RD (i'm class of '09), and what i did was send my regional admissions officer an email in february stating my continued interest in yale. i also attached a new personal statement because i'm pretty sure that my original personal statement, which was really bad, was a big part of why i got deferred, whereas the new personal statement (which i sent to my other RD schools) was way better. that's definitely not the only way to do it, but it's what i did and it worked out ok for me. :)

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies! I have written a letter to send to my Regional Admissions Director. How long should it be? Right now, it's about one page double spaced. Is this too long?
