Appealing financial aid - for those of you who have successfully appealed financial aid without a change in income - what works the best - email? in person? phone call? - what should be said, asked? Just want to do it the right way. Any extra money the school can give to cut our costs down would be wonderful Thanks.
Contact the college. Some have a process for filing these requests for reconsideration.
But really…if you have had no change in finances…what is the basis for reconsideration?
If you have an offer from another college they consider a peer that might be your best bet. Also, sometimes if it is only a small amount that you need to close the deal that might be worth mentioning but it depends on whether they only meet need or not or whether they have some discretion. Other factors are medical bills, elder or child care or an unusual unexpected expense. Anything discretionary such as buying a bigger house they will ignore
