Appealing financial aid . . .

Hey everyone,

So here is my situation:

I just got my revised aid award today, after sending in my verifcation forms. I got about $1,000 less than my previous aid, but, for me, that $1,000 is very valuable! I have been trying to save up money, but it is hard to do that since I am living on my own and I go to school full time. My dad's 2006 income was about $41,000 and he made about $5,000 more in 2007, so I guess that's why I got aid taken away. My question is this: would financial aid officials at my school take into account that my father has a very severe gambling addiction and that I live on my own, or would they not take that into account because it is too late?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a counselor at school you can explain the gambling addiction to who would advocate with the financial aid office for you? That is what they are there for, to help.

I hadn't thought of that, but I'll try it. Thanks. I guess I didn't think of that because it's a problem that I don't really like to talk about/haven't talked about to anyone. I'll definately give it a try. I'm just worried that the college I'm going to will think that it's just $1,000 that they took away, it's not a big deal.

I know that a counselor would take you seriously, and the financial aid office would take the words of the counselor seriously. Do not hesitate to try it. (From the perspective of a former counselor :)
