Application fee waivers

Hi.

I am an international gap year student who'll be requiring fee waivers from universities. Does anyone over here know whether or not universities accept fee waiver requests from INTERNATIONAL GAP YEAR students?

Someone who's experienced such a situation, please reply to my query ASAP.

Thanks!

Maybe you could help us narrow down the search. Are you looking into a major or certain part of the country?

I don’t have any preference. I’ll be applying as undecided, but my main career interests lie in Physics and Economics.

Since I’ll be requiring a healthy financial aid package, I only have the option to apply to top, reach schools.

So, would I, an international gap year student, still be able to attain fee waivers?

Not all top research universities offer the best financial aid. Even for international students, some state universities offer a better program.

But state universities won’t be able to meet the superfluous financial aid demands of an international applicant, right?

Anyhow, could you please answer my query regarding fee waiver eligibility for INTERNATIONAL GAP YEAR students?

You don’t mean you are a US student taking a gap year outside the US, right? You mean you are from outside the US doing a gap year?

Exactly. I am from Pakistan.

I don’t know, most fee waivers that I am aware of require you to be on, for example, a free-reduced school lunch program…obviously a US-specific requirement.

I know of one very good college that is tuition free for all admitted students, does accept some international students and has no app fee - Berea College.

International students can apply for fee waivers by making their counselors submit a letter to colleges.

My question was that do colleges accepts waivers from international gap year students? :/

Sorry, don’t have direct experience so probably shouldn’t have responded. FWIW, I’d check the specific college web sites.

Top, reach schools might not give you a great financial aid package. It might be worth your time to look at what schools might be able to give you a financial aid package instead of a fee wavier.
Maybe its just me, but I don’t feel like you should be basing your school on if they offer you a fee wavier.

From Colgate University’s website:
$60 application fee – The application fee is waived for students whose permanent mailing address is outside the U.S.; these students may select “other fee waiver request” when submitting the Common Application. Additionally, Colgate accepts official fee waivers from the College Board, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, and Expanding College Opportunities.

I’m not sure fee waivers are available to international students who are not U. S. citizens or permanent residents. In addition there are no waivers for submitting the CSS Profile for international students.

Are you a U. S. citizen?
