If my son applies to Ross under preferred admissions program, will he get accepted to LSA first - and then they'll send the appl over to Ross? If it would hurt his chances to get accepted to Michigan LSA, he'd rather skip it and try to be admitted to Ross as a sophomore.

Also, how are you counting "accelerated" and "intensive" courses -- are you calling these "honors" classes?

So, I'm going to answer my own question in case anyone else has the same question. Talked to someone in admissions today.
First, they think of "accelerated" and "intensive" as the same as "honors."
With Ross, you get admitted to LS&A first. They swear that applying to Ross won't hurt your chances of acceptance to LS&A and that it won't slow down notification of acceptance -- but I know a big bureauracty when I see one, and I just don't trust the system. Will talk to B-School tomorrow to see if they can shed any light.

I believe the part about "applying to Ross (as preferred admit) won't hurt your chances of acceptance to LS&A". However, I'm not so sure that "it won't slow down notification of acceptance". Waiting to hear what you find out from the b-school.

I didn't get a chance to call the B-School today, but my son's guidance counselor says he should go ahead and apply to Ross -- that it won't slow down or hurt his chances of being admitted to LS&A.

I don't think you can do both Engineering & Ross -- because both have first-year requirements.
