OK these might seem like obvious questions but I just wanted to clear things up.

Basically you send the physical application to the college, but what about your grades and SAT scores?...I mean I know you can send SATs from the college board but then do they just match that with your application and transcript? Also, when should I send my scores and how and when do I send them my grades? And AP grades? I took bio last year and got a 5 so when and how do I send those?

Thanks in advance.

While you can send a physical application to colleges, most students send electronic copies these days, colleges prefer them this way.

Grades are sometimes sent by you or your HS hard copy and sometimes sent electronically by your HS along with the SSR.

While some colleges accept SAT scores reported on HS transcripts, most require an official copy sent by the CB.

You can send test scores and transcripts at any time, they will be matched with your application.

AP grades are not sent when applying, colleges only see your self-reported AP scores on your application. Official AP scores are only sent to the one school where you decide to matriculate, you do this via the CB as well. That school will use your score report to determine credit and placement.

Ok so basically I tell my high school to send my transcript to the schools I’m applying to right?

And if I send my SAT scores now, the college will just match it with my application whenever I send it?

Each HS varies, so go to your GC or whoever is in charge of transcripts and ask them how its done. For example, some schools attach an electronic copy to the GC report form, others will hand you the transcript in an envelope to send, other HSs will send the hard copy directly to the list of schools you provide.

Yes, colleges hold on to all pieces of the application until it is complete. It doesn’t matter what order they come in as long as they are readily identifiable under the name you use on your application. My D1 sent a free SAT score report the year before she applied and the school still held on to it.

Colleges use your name, date of birth, SSN (if provided), address, high school info, etc. to match up the various parts of your application. That’s why it’s very helpful to enter the data correctly. Also, if you sign up for the ACT as “Katie Smith” and then apply as “Louise Katherine Smith”, if there’s a location on your application to note other names used, it is helpful for the admissions office.

It is common for schools to receive test scores way in advance of an actual application. For example, you may take the ACT or SAT at the end of your sophomore year and decide to use your free school reports to send it to specific schools, but you will not actually apply for admission until your senior year (if at all).

Oh ok thanks guys that really cleared things up I guess I’ll find out more from my school regarding transcripts and such…
