Applied Math / Financial Engineering

Question for you CC'ers. How would you compare and contrast Applied Math and Financial Engineering? What are strong schools in the Midwest for these - such as among U of Wisc, U of MN, U of MI, U of IL, Northwestern, Washington U - St. Louis? Which have strong undergrad programs as opposed to only Masters opportunities?

Thank you!

Bump… Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

For Northwestern, definitely check out MMSS and Kellogg certificate programs.

Financial Engineering, for sure.

One more thing: the don’t let the word “certificate” turn you off. The core courses are all graduate level and you have to fulfill a rigorous set of pre-reqs in stats, honors calculus, microecon, and econometrics. In the past 2 years, the program sent teams to at the Rotman International Trading Competition and placed 4th and 7th, even thouugh most other teams are graduate students in math finance or financial engineering programs.

Sam - thanks much for the NW info - helpful.

Delta - why Financial Eng? What is comp programming is not an interest to the student? I understand FE has a decent amount of it.
