Hey everyone, I just had a few question about UCSD's applied math major. I see on their list of majors that pretty much all of their math majors, with the exception of one, yield a B.A. I plan on going to graduate school and eventually obtaining a PhD, so I have a couple of questions.

1) I would much rather prefer to get a B.S. With the job economy in the slums and the more rigorous course load associated with a B.S. (yes, I would prefer to have a more rigorous schedule), I know I would be at a disadvantage to not have one. Is it possible to structure such a schedule that UCSD might allow me to have a B.S. in applied math? I have heard of a few colleges that allow for this sort of thing. If I work hard and make a name for myself through the school (I know it will be difficult) would it be possible for me to work with UCSD to perhaps obtain a B.S. in math?

2) I'll keep it simple. Does it even matter?

Click the majors. Most math majors are BS, not BA.

Says B.A. next to every math major except for the math-econ major. Not saying you’re wrong, but it is a discrepancy nonetheless. I sent an email to the department asking for some clarification.

Hmm thats a nice find you got there. I would trust the math department’s website however and assume they’re BS, specifically since it says it changed from BA to BS. I doubt they decided to change it back again in two years. But it doesnt hurt to double check.

Oh, and in the end, it doesnt really matter if its BA/BS.
