Hi guys, I got admissions of applied math master program from these two schools. I can’t decide but the deadline is approaching. There is not much information about these two programs online.
I think it just depends on which curriculum aligns with your interest better. I am under the impression that “applied math” varies a lot among schools. Is the applied math you referred to at Northwestern within its engineering school or math department?
under the engineering school. I don’t think there is an applied math track under the math department. I want to find a job after the master’s done
Might be bad form for me to do this lol…but have you looked around for info on Reddit?
There are tons and tons of subreddits for just about everything. I know there are subreddits for grad school application, (the undergrad one is called r/applyingtocollege ) but there is probably also one for Columbia Grad School. Questions on CC can get lost as they get further and further down the main threads, but since stuff on there is more streamlined, you usually get detailed responses from actual students or people who just know a lot within a few minutes. If you search around enough you can even find people who you can tell went there and direct message them to ask questions.
Not that CC is in any way bad, but most of the people on here are either prospective or younger undergraduate students, or parents- much more focused in general on undergrad admissions and questions. Subreddits are so specific that that would be a good place to find a whole bunch of people all in one group that can tell you about Columbia or Northwestern Grad programs.
Thank you so much!
