Apply as transfer or freshman

At the bottom, should I contact universities directly to see should I apply as freshman or transfer?
Does anyone have different opinion?

Lol. In my country, the one or two people who get into Yale or Princeton or Stanford each year don't get publicity at all. However, the one or two people who get into Harvard can even be seen doing interviews on national television. The media here think that Harvard is the ultimate success in life or something.

Anyway, there's this girl in my country who applied to 10 universities, and these were the results:
Yale (accepted)
Stanford (accepted)
MIT (accepted and attending)
UPenn (accepted, Wharton)
Harvard (waitlisted)
Princeton (waitlisted)
Amherst (accepted)
Brandeis (accepted)

Not sure about the other two, but they were safeties she got into.

A very rare feat for a student from my country. She was 2005's second best student in the entire country with 14 O level distinctions (my country ranks... lol). She has performed in concerts overseas, a national debate champion, an avid swimmer and a national young scientist.

Yes, you should contact each one and ask. The only way to know for sure. I guess you get auto-reject if you apply as freshman when you should have applied as transfer. (or maybe they let you change your application, but I doubt it)

Its not getting a good rank in school level in IIT(Indian Institute of Tech.)..its getting a GOOD rank in there own entrance exam(which is THE most toughest in the world!!atleast at this level!) and u need to get in top 5000 to enter the institute..(out of a total of 500000 sheesh...but now it will be reduced to 200000 or less coz of there restrictions...)

Issacnewton, can you post some sample problems from that entrance test? i want to see how tough it is.

youknowme:which country r u from?

Papers aren't as tough as some people put it, it's just that questions are very innovative.

Ya,I agree, its not tough for me(upto certain extent),it has innovative questions which makes it really tough....u never know which method can be used to solve a problem......
I can say its not tough for me coz,I hav now understood their question solving criteria....it needs lots of basics and u might want to argue that every1 knows basics....but their innovation is so high that u might say that it has been never taught, but actually it is,it just need our OPEN THINKING....(highly innovative and critical)

for eg.-(although its not tough but still it will do)
What is the time period of f(x) in-
f(x)=(sin x)^4+(cos x)^4

Sheesh.....we all hav a habit to go off the topics.......

Is the period of the function 2 pie? None of the links works, so...

its pie/2.....dont go into hassle for these type of questions(sheesh,I hate them too).....

The JEE is easier now, why don't you take a look at papers (mains) from before 2001...

lol.........as if I dont know anything,it seems easier coz they hav reduced there course(i.e.,more 12th oriented)...but the paper is tough(but I am now wondering...I gav it this year,it consisted of silly questions...like ...they were asking the catalyst of Hoffman's Bromamide reduction..(sheesh)...I really cant help thinkin that the paper was prepared by class XII teachers instead of professors...
(hope I spelld professor right!.......lol)

I suck at trig.... can you explain why it is pie/2? Also, the links to the exams don't work, can someone post a new one?

here is the sol(its not trig question...its functions)-
sin x has a period of 2pie.....
on squarin the time period reduces to its half times,i.e,2pie/2=pie...
on further squarin, time will again reduce to its half times,i.e.,pie/2
similarly,wth cos x ....
add them, and their common time period is pie/2..
this is not my method, this is given by Abhishiv as he is at Bansal, mine is really COMPLICATED method...

Hey,are u takin IIT exam(I mean preparin for it) this yr?
If not, then seriously dont bother or u will end up in NO CONFIDENCE at all.......
if u really want then,fo to fiitjee sites...u will find many..

HEY,back to the ORIGINAL thread.....
we can discuss that in TiT#15...;)...it seriously needs our attention...

i dont think i will comment much on this but well its seriously very wrong and unethical to apply as a freshman after having spent a yr studying and in any case that would be wasting 2 precious yrs of life ...

as abt the university knowing , i really dunt care .. i am on myself and well rest all bosh ... if u can accept cheating urself then go ahead and well i knw its a whole big new debate but well the decision is urs.. all i can say that IT is possible to catch them .. and if it does happen ( even in 1 out of a million case , the student life is RUINED)..

as of what comments i saw from ur side badman89.. they are HIGHLY uninformed.. what you talk of India is the opinion of the mass which is IRRELEVANT
universities being unknown in India doesn't mean they aren't gud or worth applying.. in India also , people who are supposed to knw them do knw... and people who dont anyways dont value much ..

Mass opinion drives popularity not quality and well iin india popularity of international universities is limited to Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Stanford..

and well if that means Princeton Yale Mit or any IVY becomes bad coz people don't knw abt it then wow..

also well ull soon realize they aren't as dumb as u think. .. its the mass u have considered so far but when u encounter people who need to knw these things, you'll be amazed at hw much they knw abt universities throughout the world...

also well in case you wonder so much in amazement over articles in newspapers abt admissions, lemme guide u to Indian newspapers themselves which even carry interviews of people who got perfect sat scores.. so its perfectly understood why they wud do tht as well..

don't judge things by popularity coz its by far a mass estimate which doesnt help the individual beyond unwanted fame in unwanted domains..

Cornell is as prestigious as Harvard in many fields and well for areas, places and degrees that a student from there might encounter ,that is all that matters and he wud get the proper credit for tht ..

and yes in India things get popularized in moments even though whatever situation u might be in ... and well i fully support vampiro's generalized statement on those snitching on students coz i have seen it happening myself with people who wudn't even think of it.. well dude after ur friends goes to the college wudn't everyone arnd him ( not family, friends) know abt his college and his admission and possibly anyone of them cud just drop down an email to univ and Bingo thats all univs need to start their suspiscion

The links are working at my end. Google them, you will find many past JEE papers.
