Apply for housing before acceptance?

D received a brochure suggesting that she apply for housing before receiving acceptance. Is this necessary? Is housing low supply/high demand? It's $25 non-refundable...

Yes. Sounds weird but send in your $25 ASAP if you think you want UF on campus housing. Your payment puts you on a waiting list (even though you haven’t been accepted yet). First come, first served. Being at the head of the list lets you choose your dorm. And then you can hope you get accepted! (and no, it is not refunded if you are denied admission.)

NYmomLongIsland-
If you honestly believe that your son will gain acceptances, even as an out of state applicant and if you honestly believe that if accepted, your son will attend, then you must immediately put in your $25 housing reservation deposit as housing at UF is tight and several housing options are less than desirable; ie – no air conditioning.
Question-
As an out of state applicant, your son’s tuition fee will be 4x larger than the in-state applicants, then why worry about a $ 25 fee ?

OK, did it. So what are the more desirable dorms? I can’t believe that some don’t have AC.

@NYmomLI - you will be glad you spent the $25 if your child gets accepted. It’s a nice racket for UF, but in order to secure a good number in line, it’s necessary.
