Apply to specific program (NETS or VIPER) or to general (SEAS)

How would applying to a specific program affect my decision?
If I get rejected from that program, am I still considered for Penn, in SEAS or CAS?

The way it goes is you essentially have to get accepted into both schools separately to be considered for the program. Then they have their own little admissions process which is a lot less formal and is pretty much the program people sitting around a table going “oh I like this guy”. If you get rejected from the program, you get thrown back into the pool where they probably won’t reject you from either school. It’s happened, but not very often from what I’ve heard.

Awesome, thanks!

Just to add some color, although I’m not in NETS/VIPER (I’m in LSM). From a discussion I’ve had, you don’t necessarily need to “get accepted into both schools separately,” but more that the admissions rep reading your application punts your application to the review committee. NETS may be different in that it’s not necessarily a “Dual-Degree” program. Either way, applying to the special program will likely not have an effect on your “regular” Penn application.
