Apply to Stanford CS from MS&E

I was admitted to Stanford's MS&E program, and its focus on tech entrepreneurship and management suits my interest to become a Product Manager in tech industry. However, if possible, I also want to deepen my CS knowledge through dual degree with stanford's MS CS which I think is extremely beneficial in becoming PM. I'm saying this after I read about the Graduate Authorization Petition systems that allows internal application within Stanford.

So my question is, 1. is applying to CS from MS&E any easier than simply applying to MS in CS from outside like normal applicants? Also, 2. do tech companies consider MS&E students to be good PM candidates anyways without MS CS degree?

I'm a CS undergrad, and I've gotten into a couple of top10 MS in CS programs so I believe my CS background is not that weak when applying internally.

As someone who’s hired many PMs (and other tech people), I can assure you that a degree in CS is not necessary for a Product Manager role. A PM needs to be able to understand technology sufficiently well to be able to talk with techies as well as non-techies. So your communication skills, writing skills, ability to make judgement calls, and so on will matter much more than whether or not you took classes in Automata Theory & Operating Systems (for example).

Hope that helps. If you want more guidance feel free to send me a message.
