I’m a H.S. Junior (class of 2018) and I’m thinking about applying to Quinnipiac. While it certainly isn’t my first choice of school, it’s certainly something that I’ve been taking notice of. My desired major is Political Science. I first heard about this school during the 2016 election from the polls they set out, but when I met with my college counselor in the Winter I was surprised to find this school on my suggested colleges list. I LOVE New England. I have family in New York and have visited Boston a few times. I love the countrysides and little towns here and there. While my top college choices are all urban, this is certainly an exception to that. It’s one of the few colleges I would go to not connected to a major city.
So, my original question. Based on what your experience applying was, interviews, etc., is there any possibility I’d be able to get admitted into this university? Here are some quick facts that summarize my concern.
- My GPA is around 2.8 (tanked from mathematics, have always sucked)
- I've interned with a federal agency
- I've done outside political campaigning and have met many different public officials outside of school
- I'm slated to become a captain of my school's debate team next year and officer in our student council
- I've performed extremely well in debate and government classes at my school (lowest grade out of them was an A-)
- I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet but received an 1100 on the 2016 PSAT (600 Reading/Writing, 500 Math)
I love government and politics and think I would enjoy this college. However, the biggest thing I fear is that my GPA and math grades will instantly shy them away.
Thanks in advance!
