My parents are trying to force me to join the military but I'd rather not for alot of reasons. My parents are really angry and now is refusing to help me with financial aid. They refuse to send in W2 forms to my school in an attempt to force me into the military. I'm trying to get into NYU so I really need aid help. Is there anyway I can apply without my parents help?

No, there isn't. The fact that parents "won't" help is irrelevant. You are still considered a dependent student for financial aid purposes (and no, that won't change even if you move out and get a job for a year), and your parents' financial information is still required. Otherwise, what's to prevent everyone's parents from refusing to send in required information?

You may have to change your plans and apply to schools that give lots of merit aid to kids with your stats, or to state schools.

These won't necessarily be affordable either, if your parents choose not to apply for aid, and choose not to help you financially. In fact, for most students, these schools won't be affordable either (unless you get a full ride, which is not typical).

depending on your stats -- you may be able to apply to some lower tier schools that will give you a full ride. They might not be the schools you wanted to attend -- but your options are very limited and it might be a better choice than joining the military.

and just a side note on NYU -- they are notorious for being very stingy with financial aid, so even if your parents were willing to cooperate and submit the FA information your package would include large loans and a large amount that your parents would be expected to pay -- NYU is NOT a good choice for students that need FA.

zacriemaster -- from you past posts, it seems you are currently a junior at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles. It seems very unusual for your parents to be pressuring you into the military, considering the amount of money they expended to send you to private school. You need to consider what might be pushing them to this ultimatium.
