Applying for Financial Aid During Gap Year

Hi everyone! I am a high school senior graduating in June who has enrolled at St. Olaf College but am currently in the process of receiving a one year deferment. Next year I plan to go to Norway to study music at a folk high school. I'm wondering what the process is for applying for/receiving financial aid while I am gone. I applied for the Elk Most Valuable Student Scholarship and was a local scholarship recipient but as soon as I told them I was deferring they withdrew the scholarship.Am I eligible to apply for some of the national scholarships (Best Buy, Lowe's, Toyota, KFC Colonel's Scholars) next year? I realize it would be a lot of extra work but want to make sure I don't do extra work if the scholarships are not even available to me.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'd really appreciate any help! Thank you!

Many scholarship require that you apply as a high school senior and matriculate immediately to a four year college.

you will have to read the scholarships fine print and ask them specifically -- I also know that many scholarship require either an interview in the states (which will be hard to do in Norway) and/or only allow US citizens RESIDING in the US to apply.

Most scholarships spell out the ground rules for you -- or you can email and ask them.
