applying for jobs in case no grad school

Son has taken the GRE for the second time, and did not improve his score, in fact, went down in verbal. He's getting discouraged about his grad school prospects, and I'm worried he will not get into grad school, finding out too late for a job or internship. He has had no luck in the past two years with internships, and I'm hoping he will apply for jobs/internships at the same time he applies for grad schools. I think if come spring, when he realizes he either doesn't want to go to grad school, or doesn't get accepted into grad school, it will be too late for him to find an engineering internship/job at that point. He will get his BS in mech eng in spring 2014.

Hoping for some insight from engineering students/recent grads, as to how you handled your senior year in engineering and applying to grad school.

Thank you!

If your son is concerned that he won’t get into grad school, then he needs to be job searching this year WHILE he’s applying for grad school. The plan shouldn’t be to just plan for one route. Be open to either path…and then go the way that works out best.
