Applying for the First Round, November 2007

Haha, yeah but my whole essay was a poem- hope it goes over OK!

Love the name too, grapefruit yes.

Welcome to the addicting hell that is college confidential. Perhaps I'm a masochist, but you will most likely get addicted too... get out while you can!

So good luck to us four (five?) DS hopefuls on CC!

I want to go to Deep Springs more than anything! Unfortunately, my anatomy makes this impossible. Does anyone know of any similar programs at coed schools?

my friend brought some info about it school today. crazy school. but good luck!

so, annie rose, there's a part of the deep springs web site that lists schools with a kind of similar experience. Its the last question.

Deep Springs College: AdmissionsFrequently Asked Questions

I would also add to that list Marlboro, a school of around 330 students in Vermont.

Marlboro College

Thanks 49r631!

It certainly is hard to pass a day, to pas an hour, without weighing up my prospects of acceptance to part two.

I read this board around the application stages in 2005 and 2006 but it completely slipped my mind as I sat absorbed by my own application this year. I just never seem to be able to get enough information to meet the demands of my appetite.

How much I would love to be able to count down the days with a specific date.

Anyone getting nervous yet?

yes. i feel like time moves so slowly when you are waiting for something. I too would like to have a deffinite time to look towards. and i guess it is technically the second week of december, because the first week was only december 1.

how are you other college things going?

Miserable!

After applying to DS (and to a lesser extent UChicago) I have no clue how I can portray myself with only a couple hundred words and a list of ECs! It just wont feel right compared to 2,500 words, book lists, ect.

Also, all of the application procedures and deadlines are soooo confusing. One school will allow supplementals, another wont, this school is due the 1st of Jan, but PREFERS you send it by Dec. 15. And don't even get me started on financial aid! DS was nice- only a page of "fill in the blank" stuff, a uniform deadline, no FA app, no online-ness, and no fees!

Whew glad I got that off my chest.

On the plus side, I'm officially done throwing twenties at the College Board so I can waste a Saturday at a school an hour away! Thats right folks, I'm done with testing!

so, i thought the word limit was 2500 as well, but they changed it this year to 3500 in like october or something. after i had all the essays already written, because i saved the version from august, somebody pointed that out to me so i added on a couple hundred words. sorry if thats something you didnt want to know. glad youre done testing though

i just hope somebody calls or mails something soon... im getting sick of applying to all kinds of places i dont really want to go.

Did you apply using a printout or did you get the application through the mail?
Because I got it in a boolet through the mail, and mine clearly stated 3500 words, and when I checked it on the web, just by accident, it said 2500......this was in Nov.....So myabe there were two different word limits....?

I can't wait to know if I will be able to go there soon...

Sorry! I meant 3,500 words!

But yeah, I noticed a word limit discrepancy between the two applications also. I went with the 3,500 words. My essays are 1,542, 536 and 1,605 words (the middle essay was the poem).

The wait is making me crazy!

Also, I have yet to start other apps. /:

the last two years they started calling the 11th and the 13th. thats getting pretty close...

so they call? i was wondering how tey would let people know...so i can stop looking for anything in the mail...da*mn...I'm almost never home.....

I have a confession to make...

Ever since submitting my application a month ago, I've lurked this ungodly site from end to end reading every page relating to Deep Springs. I couldn't stop myself!

Needless to say, I never thought I'd be posting here. But here I am, and hopefully I can make a meaningful contribution to the DS discussions over the next few months.

I got the call tonight, on December 9th, and I've never felt so alive.

Where are the rest of you soon-to-be-announced Round IIers from?

Congrats man!!! Hope to maybe join you in the 2nd round...

What time was it? Where are you from? What letter does your last name begin with?

Give us clues!

Oh man, I feel like an 8th grade girl waiting for gossip.

On a far more depressing note, do they call you if you are denied?

I am curious as well.

What were your stats Mwanafunzi?

Just so I can know HOW far DS Round II was out of my league....

My gosh! I got the call (5:30 EST)!

From Charlotte, North Carolina

Congrats to you too!

I'm freaking out here.

Do they call everyone on the same night?

Meugenio- If you don't mind sharing, what were your stats and what does your last name begin with?

P.S.- I have yet to hear and I am from Western New York and my last name begins with "N".
