Do you find that asian students at elite prep schools tend to be at all strange or over achievers? Do you have to have an insane aptitude for mathematics or music?
As an asian person applying out of asia, I am curious if there is a certain quality of student that tends to go to prep school.
My daughter says, absolutely not, at least not in SPS. There is no significant difference in academic skills and abilities or in aptitude between Asian and non-Asian students. Academically, most BS students are very well prepared, regardless of national origin.
Really, everyone has a place in the community and contributes – regardless of where they are from. I would say, as a generalization, that many of the foreign (not just Asian) students have a particularly strong aptitude for math and science. As many are also English language learners, this helps them hit the ground running academically in some subjects while they are investing in their English abilities. My son’s BS friends from Asia were as diverse as his friends from elsewhere in terms of their interests.
