I have applied for boarding schools for next year (10th grade), and I got waitlisted at my top choices, but I got into my safety school. I feel that the school I got accepted into is not really the school for me, and I do not feel I will be happy there. I personally thought I would be able to get into some of the schools I got waitlisted at. People told me that I would probably get into them. I got an 88 on my SSAT, I am part of the NJHS, I write for my school newspaper, and I have had all A's for this and last year. I also play hockey at a high level, and I also play soccer, but soccer isn't my main sport. I am also in the most advanced classes I am able to be in for my grade. The schools I got waitlisted at Milton, Exeter, and Middlesex. I have heard that many more kids have applied to boarding schools than ever before. I am contemplating about waiting one more year and apply next year. I was wondering, how much harder it is to apply for 11th grade vs. 10th grade?

There are generally less spots available for 11th. Have you considered repeating 10th? There are many threads on this topic, try a search

I am in 10th grade this year, and I would be repeating to be in 10th grade next year.

It’s usually harder to get accepted for 11th grade. As was mentioned above, you could repeat 10th, but I would, personally, want to graduate on time from whatever school that may be. Are you sure you don’t want to attend your safety school? Are you going to go to one of their visit back days?
