Hi:
I was wondering if it's possible to major in music at Bard College, but not attend the conservatory. It looks like Bard has the conservatory and then they also have a B.A. in music at the college. It's a little confusing. Maybe someone here can explain it?

Hi FenderMom,
Yes, it's possible to get a B.A. degree with a major in music at Bard College, in a program that's separate from the Conservatory. There is no audition for the B.A. program. If a student is accepted into the college, s/he may take music classes toward the B.A. The emphasis is on history, theory and composition rather than on performance, though lessons are offered. Private lesson teachers are different from those teaching in the Conservatory. The "Music Program" has been around as long as Bard has been in existence. The Conservatory is brand new, about 3 years old, and is just getting off the ground.

I got accepted to Bard and was initially happy. i am concerned about certain things I read about the general Bard student body. Are they moody and depressed? I have energy and am a positive person and love photography and learning. Can you give me some idea. I will visit soon.
thank you.
