Cambridge is one of my dream schools, and I have been looking into the application process lately. I came across a line that said int'l applicants should be in the top 1%-2% of their year. I am almost sure I am in this threshold, but the problem is, my school doesn't send ranks to colleges on our transcripts. It just shows up as "No Rank" to all colleges the transcript is sent to. Will this affect my chances with Cambridge at all?

Nope! It’s not your fault your school doesn’t report ranks! Call Cambridge Admissions just in case but otherwise, you’re all good. Good luck.

Ask your guidance counselor to address this in his letter.

My school didn’t rank either. It has no affect on your application but if you ARE in the top 1-2%, your counselor will know (they have access to that information even if students don’t) and should include it in their recommendation like BrownParent suggested. If you have any more questions about applying to Cam or Cam in general feel free to PM me!

Good luck!

Thank you so much, everyone!

UK high schools usually don’t rank either. Cambridge mean they want applicants who are in the top 1-2% of their age group. This is why they like standardised tests and ignore GPA (which is only a measurement relative to your school). Assuming you have some high scores in relevant APs/SAT IIs/IB/A-Levels or anything else they accept, you don’t need to worry.

Agreeing with cupcake.

Cambridge doesn’t care one bit about anything on your high school transcript (watch, someone like cupcake is going to find the one little bit I overlooked, but they don’t care about what courses you took, your GPA, your class standing, etc.).

They want to see good exam results on AP tests (i.e., in the top 1%-2%), together with a good statement and interview. Don’t worry about your rank in your particular school, for all they know everyone at the school was in the top 1%-2% of Americans.
