what happens if you apply to Brown (ED) and UChicago (EA)?

Your high-school college counseling office has to send transcripts and guidance counselor letter. They are aware of ED rules (possibly, they sign a statement verifying that you are following them?) and will refuse to send the required docs to both an ED and an EA school.

Brown is one of the ED schools that explicity state you cannot apply to any other colleges EA if you apply ED. They will allow you to apply to colleges with rolling admissions.

but i would be able to do this if I applied to upenn?

Yes, you can do that if you apply to Penn. Neither Penn nor Chicago have restrictions similar to Brown (no EA if apply ED) or Georgetown (no ED if apply EA). Of course, you can only apply ED to one school, and if you get in you must go there.

Check the rules for every single college separately; some EDs won't let you apply anywhere else EA but they will let you apply to "rolling admissions" schools...

As a general piece of advice, Muffy333 is giving you the right info. You are best always at checking with the schools before even cc. On occassion you can get bad infor even here.

I thought I had researched the whole ED thing at a reach school the kid really likes; a coach had said ED would increase her chances, so that was great since she loves the school, but I assumed she could apply to her state schools early which is called EA but I think its really rolling...ANYWAY, then I found out the ED school rules were that she couldn't have any other applications in that were defined as "EA". So there's no way I would let her give up schools that were more of a sure thing (she has a better chance at the state schools the earlier she applies) for the one chance at the reach school...just read all the fine print carefully!!!!

It seems like you're confused on what school is your dream school. You shouldn't be asking about Brown (ED) and Penn (ED). You should only have one school in mind for (ED). NOt debating between two schools because (ED) is a commitment to one school where you truly believe you belong.

I agree with House of London. Do not just apply Early Decision to increase your chances. You will most likely regret it. Use ED if you are dead-set on a certain school that fits you in every way possible.
