Applying to Engineering Grad School. How do I get involved in a professor's research???

Hi all,

I’m still pretty new to the graduate application process so bear with me.

I am planning on applying to several Master’s of Science in Biomedical Engineering Programs for the 2018 fall semester. I know that I want to do a thesis and there are several professors whose research I am interested in.

My question is, how do I go about getting involved with a particular professor’s research? When I apply, am I chosen by a professor or do I choose a professor to research with?

I’m interested in one or two professors at each university that I’m applying to. Should I contact them and ask if they’ll consider my application for their lab(s) or should I simply wait to see if I am accepted first?

Thanks.

It is probably better to see if you are accepted into the MS program first and then contact them. Itis likely that they get many emails from prospective students asking about working in their lab and getting support and they won’t answer too many of them.
