it's definitely one of my top choices. although not THE top choice.

hmm.. questions about the campus? well, did you like the dorms? how was the food? how close are you to the naval academy? did you hear yelling and shouting?

The freshman dorms were "acceptable," in my opinion. I can't remember the exact dimensions, but it wasn't very roomy. I remember there were two beds, two bookshelves, two desks, and a drawer. The room I was in the most had a TV and a playstation on top of the dresser, as well as one of the bookshelves on top of the desk. They also had a minifridge, microwave, and coffee pot in the room.

The food wasn't too spectacular. I only ate there for dinner Thursday night, and opted for the little coffee shop under one of the dorm halls for breakfast and lunch on Friday. The dinner was shrimp fried rice, as well as soups, fruits, and other sides.

The naval academy was less than 2 minutes away in a car.

It was rather quiet in the dorms. The students said if anyone was being overly rambunctious, they would usually calm down if you asked.

Supposedly, my counselor is almost finished with my report.

The town had a lot of unique restaurants and shops. I didn't get to look around much but my friend told me about all of the museums and theaters. I'm pretty sure there are at least a few clubs and bars in the area, I heard a few of the Johnnies talking about them. I think there's a mall 30 minutes away?

Are you planning on taking an overnight visit?

hi everyone
i am an international and i plan to apply to st. johns but iam a bit confused.
i visited the st.johns website and found that it has two campuses,,,annapolis and santa fe. as i am an international seeking lots of aid i donot know the difference between the two colleges a lot. Besides what are the address of the two colleges, i mean do i need to specify where i have to apply, among the two, or is it that i apply to just st, johns and which one gives more aid ti internationals???? does it accept the common app????,,,,,,,,,
thanks alot and sorry if i sounded stupid.........i am an international and we donot have opportunities of knowing the campus better than you guys in the us do.,,,so any help would be appreciated

Generally Santa Fe is "better" with aid, but both are supposedly pretty good. It's definitely tough-going being an international student, though, as most colleges aren't going to give you the "lots of aid" that you need.

What country are you from?

Hey, congrats to verbivorous! It's a pretty good feeling getting that letter. :D

golddw- congrats to you too! and good luck with uchicago. i guess we're both on the same boat.

isnwta- neither schools accept the common app. st johns has a unique application process. there is no application fee. you need to submit two teacher reccs, secondary school report and write a few essay-responses to 3 or 4 questions (along the lines of: why st johns, describe your reading habits, whats a significant experience you've had). the essays are the most important part of your application. when you apply to the college you have to specify which campus you're applying to. i chose annapolis because i've got east coast pride. i like having all 4 seasons and being near the atlantic ocean. once you're a "Johnny," or a St Johns student, you're allowed to switch between the two campuses. I hear this is really a blessing since living with the same 400 people on a tiny campus can become stifling.

If by hippy you mean all the Johnnies subscribe to a pluralist philosophy of absolute tolerance, I think your mother (along with her coworkers) are somewhat incorrect.

If by hippy you mean avant-garde or straying from the accepted norm, sure.

I wasn't attempting to be rude. And I'm not sure if I misinterpreted her comment. I couldn't tell if she was if she was saying "hippy" in an antagonistic fashion or just throwing it out there.

I got my acceptance letter earlier in the week.

I don't think anyone interpreted it that way. :) I think the word "hippy" is a stereotype that can apply to so many different kinds of people, it's hardly valid to apply that blanket statement to an entire group of people.

Hello fellow st.John's enthusiasts. Last year in early December I had recieved acceptance from St. John's as well. Of course I'm extremely excited and can't wait to go there. It's just so refreshing to find other people who not only are interested in the college but are also accepted as well.

lol if they mean it's unconventional then yeah, i guess it's hippie-ish. it's very intellectual with its Core education. but i'd consider a place like reed college as much more hippier than st. john's. st. john's just doesn't have the same ultra-liberal atmosphere, reefer madness, peace, love, and birkenstocks that reed has. ;)

Just to update: I probably won't be able to go to St. John's for financial reasons. But I wish the rest of you the best and hope you'll come back to CC with stories about your Greak Books educations! :)

i don't know why i haven't joined in this discussion yet, but better late than never....

i also got accepted... but my parents are being dumbballs and despite promising to send in the finaid forms every day for the past three weeks, they have yet do do so

how long does it take st johns to reply with an offer after i hit submit? ( does anyone know, or did you all have responsible parents who sent it in in october- o wiat.. like mine promised to do- and so you have no idea?)

ps- sorry for soundign bitter... sjc is my first choice but at the rate my parents are moving i won't be able to afford it and that makes me sad
