<p>I'm sure many of you have wondered the same thing, but is it a good idea to apply to some Ivy League schools, just to see what happens? </p>
<p>I'm not an outstanding applicant, but many people tell me that I'm a pretty good one. I have a 33 ACT (retaking) and am 5th in my class with a 3.94 UW and 4.56 W GPA. I don't think that my stats will disqualify me, and I really want to see what happens. </p>
<p>In your opinion, do I even have any shot at all, and should I even try for it?</p>
<p>Yes and yes. Your grades, scores and rank will not keep you out. What will get you in will be other more subjective factors such as essays, recommendations, extracurriculars, talents, interests, life experience and most importantly demographics – race, ethnicity, economic status, family background, geography.</p>
<p>If you don’t apply you will never know if you could have been a contender. Some valid reasons for not applying would be if you want to apply ED to another college or if you need merit aid. Barring those considerations, give it a go.</p>
<p>You have a shot, I don’t see any reason not to apply.</p>

<p>The first sentence of your final paragraph was oddly inspiring to me. I really make many of my decisions too logically, and don’t leave enough room for spontaneity. But you know what? I’m not going to do that anymore. As the super cliched saying goes “you miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take”. I’ll make sure to take that shot (or perhaps 6 or 7 of them).</p>
<p>The real question is WHY? Just to see what? If you have the time to write all those essays, and your family can afford to let you spend hundreds of dollars “just to see” if you get in, great. But what do you want? What is so great about this group of schools for you specifically?</p>
<p>I decided not to because it would be too much work and I just don’t care that much.</p>
<p>I see you have made a decision but I actually wanted to say you have a solid chance of getting into either u penn or brown and more likely if you applied early.</p>
<p>I guess saying that I’ll go for six or seven of them is a bit ridiculous. That was a bit far.</p>
<p>But perhaps I’ll go for three. I’m planning on doing Poly Sci, so to answer sally’s question, it is because the education I would be offered would be superb.</p>
<p>Michigan and Berkeley are strong in polisci, if you’re looking for something slightly easier to get into. Plus we have sports and our social scene is a bit more exciting!</p>
