A few questions about the application process...
- Do they require an essay?
- Do they need to see extracurricular activities?
- Do they interview applicants?

No interviews…unless things have recently changed, I recall that Iowa only requires essays and info on EC’s if you feel you need to ask for a special individual review due to special circumstances or not meeting RAI requirements.

Otherwise, the main factors are GPA/ranking (if available), classes you’ve taken (academic rigor), and test scores.

The administration at Iowa is pretty straightforward, above-board, not overly complex, and very supportive. The admissions process is no different. The admissions office is very responsive if you have any questions just call or email them.

The school has a user friendly admission site. You should find the info you need there.

Your RAI determines whether you’ll be admitted. It’s a simple numeric formula. Read about it here, and be sure you understand the minimum RAI required for your in-state/OOS status and major of choice.

Beastman, I’m sure how you’re related to the process for applying to UI but I’ve read several of your posts here on this forum and they’ve been wonderfully helpful.

Thank you! I wish there were similarly knowledgeable posters on the Illinois, OSU and Minnesota boards.

Regards

Thanks, FireCoog. I’m a big fan, as are a few others and if we can save you some time or aggravation, we will. My son’s just finished his second year and he loves Iowa. You will find it remarkably different from your other choices, I think. Whatever you do, visit your top 2-3 choices before you decide.
