Applying with test scores vs. without

CDS or IPEDS for the schools that think they’re too good to publish a CDS (looking at you, Chicago).

I’ve downloaded and collated both for the top ~50 USNews schools and there is rarely more than a 10-20 point variance.

Unfortunately, test-optional is going to make this more challenging going forward. I’ve already seen “NYU’s average this year was 1540, so only submit if you’re higher than that” messages.

If students only provide scores if they’re higher than the average of those who chose to submit last year, the “average” will be 1600 in 2-3 years. With 50 students submitting scores. I’ll be interested to see what percentage of students actually submitted scores to NYU.

With their previous midpoint being ~1460, iirc, receiving only scores of 1470-1600 resulting in a new mid point of 1540 isn’t surprising.

Florida is the only State that required test scores. Florida State average is down slightly. Lets see how bad US news punishes Florida Schools in next years rankings

Test optional means test optional. At some point we have to take the colleges at their word.
