It’s a relief to have a confirmation that measurable skills don’t lag behind the passion for languages. DD’s results are in: AP French (5), AP Spanish (5), not bad for a non-native sophomore!
@ArtsyKidDad–Congratulations to your daughter! Two 5s in one year for world languages is quite an accomplishment. What courses will your child take next year as a junior?
@ChezCurie Thank you. Next year will be a bit harder for languages. Spanish will be OK with AP Spanish lit involving tons of reading – but for French, she’ll have to sign up for Alliance Française classes because her otherwise great school doesn’t offer anything beyond AP.
@idiomas Thank you for your suggestion about Dickinson. Other than being far away from major cities (DD’s college jigsaw puzzle is complicated by her budding non-classical music career), it seems an excellent school to consider
Another way that she can practice reading is to read news in other languages. For example:

If it’s within your means, see if you can subscribe to Phosphore, a monthly magazine for college-bound 16-19 year olds.
I’ll second Tufts, Middlebury, SFS, Dickinson, Bryn Mawr. Look into Kalamazoo, St Olaf, Macalester, Wellesley?
