I'm writing my essay about a personal experience that changed me for the better. Essentially, I recount my ordeal (shortly) and go on to explain how it changed me into a completely different, better person who is very motivated.

My question: Is it better to write an essay more about me? Should my essay cover more than, "I'm motivated because of a tough experience"? I'm just worried that colleges will think, "Oh, that was a good story. It's nice to see she's grown. But what is she like?"

Any ideas?

I don’t think you have to do one or the other. I think you can and you should interweave your personality and little details about yourself within the anecdote and the analysis. Also your actions do speak a lot about your personality and being. Luck:)
