I am planning on applying U of Chicago for RD.

For this essay topic, do u think it is possibly inappropriate to

write about being caught for downloading porns?

I was not the one who watched it, but helped others to download in dorm, by breaking firewalls. - watching porno was against the dorm rule..

I knew it was wrong, but did it because i was the only one who could do it, and my friends admired at my ability.

One day, dorm officer found the download program and tried to figure who did it.

I was like 'oh crap' and decided to face what i have done wrong. So i told truth about what happened and expected to be expelled. But he decided to overlook for once..

Is it too dangerous to write how much i was close to be kicked out of school?? - especially by downloading porno?

…Yeeeah I think that might be a bit errrr…I don’t think that is the best topic O.o Sure you’ll certainly stand out from everyone else…but probably not in a good way.

If you are a brilliant writer, you can write on almost any topic that inspires you. In this case, this topic gives a good starting point for an essay because you can talk about vanity, peer pressure, ethics, and so on. But if you are not such a good writer (and your posts has some errors in it that suggest you are not) perhaps it is better not to take chances.

Here’s something I wrote for another, similar thread:

You could definitely use the incident to show something important about yourself that isn’t on your resume, but I got no sense of what that might be from your own description. Unless you can articulate in a sentence or two what you are trying to accomplish by choosing this topic/incident, you ought to be thinking about taking a different approach and writing a different essay.
