Apps are in but stress still present competition with friend driving me crazy satvgpa

ok well, where do i begin

so i finally got to finishing all my apps last week but for some reason feel as if im not going to get accepted anywhere because my low gpa i keep trying to comfort myself saying my sat will make up for it and my course-load compared to the other kids at my school but i feel as if im just falsely trying to calm myself down i need some brutally honest answers please.

here is the rundown

i have several close friend but the college process has just angers me when i talk to them about the subject i feel as if they dont deserve to go to better schools than me they havent done anything overly oustanding while i have worked my but off. Here are the comparisons

Me
GPA 3.03----yes very low i understand but im a bright kid
Single SAT 1320/1600 1910/2400
COURSE-LOAD
honors- biology, algebra 1, world history, english 9, english 10, chemistry
AP- world history, US history, Gov, english lang and comp, english lit and comp, environmental science

Friend
GPA 3.49
SAT i think taken twice combined 1100/1600 1730/2400
COURSE-LOAD
NO honors classes 1 ap class- ab statistics

Since freshman year we have had the same extra circulars, 4 varsity letters both are presidents of a club but i have the edge in the fact that i am also SGA vice president he

the thing is i have been hearing that colleges consider gpa the most important followed by sat and course-load and so on and i feel as if he is going to get into schools we both applied to over me because of his significantly higher gpa, is this true?

also he is open to many more scholarships because of his gpa which is frustrating knowing that i work so much harder than he does. i know it sounds like ive been complaining which i in part i am but i just wanted to know if my speculations will turn out correct

thanks

bump…

Where are you both applying?

You guys should get into a state university just fine.

we are applying to all the same schools- penn state pitt james madison university of south carolina clemson and university of florida

o im also applying to a couple state schools that are more like safteys george mason christopher newport and marywashington

You’re fine, those are not the kind of schools that will limit good admits from one high school.

thanks hmom good to know but the real question is which schools do i have a shot at

He has a shot at HYPSM and will probably get into atleast 4 out of the 5. You… whats your local community college called again? Better start chatting up the ad coms there.

^^
I disagree. I’m sure he can get into a state university without a hitch. If he lived in my state, and applied to the University of Washington, he would get in no problem.

^phade

lawls

wait what is HYPSM?

HYPSM - Hofstra, Yeshiva, Pace, Syracuse, & Middlebury.

^ LOL.

That was one of the funniest posts I’ve read in a while :P

…figured it the ives boy i forgot how sarcastic cc was

any straight answers today

lol… anyway, to the OP, I think both of you are going to be fine. don’t stress too much over it. Those schools will not reject you solely because there’s ONE other competitive applicant from your school. They’ll look at your application holistically.

ay, good luck with USC and UF, I might see you at one of them if i get in and go.

and gl with the others too

thanks for the good luck man i really think i need it

I think colleges look at a combination of GPA and courseload. If you took a significant amount of AP’s relative to what is available at your high school, your prospective colleges will recognize that. This is especially true if you or your guidance counselor emphasized that fact (e.g., “This student took on almost every AP class offered by our school, while most students take only one or two!” from GC)–or if the college is somewhat familiar with your high school’s offerings. That familiarity can occur when a high school regularly sends applications to the same colleges.

So, combining your all-right GPA (it -is- still a B, though barely) and satisfactory courseload (a good amount of honors and AP classes), you should have good chances at some of these schools.

I dont think Middlebury is that easy to get in…

neither of us are applying to middlebury but thanks i guess
